“I showed up 20 minutes early to see your talk but they were turning people away at the door”.

This is a really cool sentence I heard at the Qualtrics x4 Summit, where 7000 people tried to pick breakout sessions like mine to come watch. I promised everyone there that the talk, which got a bit technical, would lead to blog posts with more detail and hopefully introduce a future of sharing helpful and practical tips for your HR tech life.

“Part Human Part Machine” is not only what my parents call me, but a reference to BuzzFeed’s core principle of pairing artificial intelligence with human ingenuity to create great work. This presentation shows how the People Team tried to apply the same philosophy. As Arianna Huffington said before I went on (another cool sentence), “AI may be more intelligent than humans, but it will never be more loving, more caring, more wise.”

Here’s the cellphone video I shot of the talk. If you don’t want to watch it wholesale, follow this blog and I will try to teach you

  • 1) how to build a bot that drives workplace celebrations,
  • 2) how your People Team can get to know more employees via a chatbot,
  • 3) why random chance is a beautiful way to get teams to know one another

Stay tuned.
